Flexport.org Receives $6 Million Fund From Tech For Refugees for Humanitarian Relief Programmes

Shipping aid organisation Flexport.org has received $6 million in funding from Tech For Refugees. The multi-million-dollar donation will support Flexport.org’s various humanitarian relief programmes. Flexport.org predicts that the grant will help the initiative redouble its efforts and support many more refugees worldwide.

Giving Pledge signatories Julia and Yuri Milner co-founded Tech For Refugees in 2022. The couple’s Breakthrough Prize Foundation  funds the initiative alongside several other philanthropic enterprises.

These enterprises include the Breakthrough Initiatives, the Breakthrough Prize, and the Breakthrough Junior Challenge. The Foundation has also donated to projects that support Ukrainian scientists and civilians.

Julia and Yuri Milner established the Breakthrough Prize Foundation  in 2012, the same year that they joined the Giving Pledge. Affluent individuals who join the Giving Pledge dedicate most of their wealth to charitable pursuits. So far, Flexport.org’s programmes with Tech For Refugees have included:

1. Flexport.org Ukraine programme. Approximately two million Ukrainian refugees received $30 million of aid through this programme. Flexport.org’s 80 aid shipments included food, ambulances, hospital beds, and “dignity kits.” These kits allow families living in difficult conditions to keep up their personal safety, health, and hygiene.
2. Flexport.org Horn of Africa programme. Around a million people received $10 million of aid through this programme. Flexport.org’s 16 full shipments included Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF). RUTF is an essential food aid that treats severe malnutrition, especially in young children.
3. Flexport.org Pakistan programme. This programme achieved a similar scale of operations to the Flexport.org Horn of Africa programme. Flexport.org delivered much-needed supplies after devastating flooding impacted Pakistan in 2022.

The new $6 million grant will help more refugees from Ukraine, Pakistan, and the Horn of Africa. Individuals in other crisis areas, like those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, will also benefit.
